"Here are a few words and sayings that came to mind that are southern-speak. There are many I could list, but I'm going to limit this to things I either say myself or hear on a regular basis.
Reckon = suppose. Mom, can I go outside? I reckon you can.
Fixin' to = getting ready to. I'm fixin' to jerk a knot in your ass.
By the time someone threatens jerking knots, she is undoubtedly ill as a hornet or mad as a wet hen.
You could cause a parent to be ill as a hornet by acting like you don't have a lick of sense or like you didn't have no raisin' in public. You know, like you were born in a barn, running around like a chicken with its head cut off."

Hi! I followed your comment from Autumn's blog! My parents and brother live in North Carolina, Burnsville area. We want to join them someday but jobs are scarce in that county. Anyway, just wanted to say hello and that I like your blog!

What is funny to me is that I am from Oklahoma and while I don't have the accent either, people here say the same things. But then some of my ancestors did come from North Carolina...
Hubby and I lived in NC for 3 years some years ago. Being California natives, we often found the language difficult to interpret. But things grow on you and before you know it - you are speaking like a native. Even though it has been more than 20 years since we left, I still catch myself saying things like 'cut on the lights' *s*
