Socks are tedius...

I have been seeing tons of other folks making socks lately, and thought it would be fun and a really cool thing to learn how to make. So, I got a bit of sock yarn from my local yarn shop, and thought I would try my hand at a little pair of socks for Taylor Anne. She loves the yarn, and I already had the needles I needed, so I started on Friday. I'm using the SJ Crew pattern by trek. Here's how far I've gotten since then:

This is the sock from the top down, it's the ribbing part (K2P1) which is supposed to be 3" long before I move to the next part which is the heel. This one pattern is using a flap heel (I don't know what that means yet). Luckily I've found a good sock knitting site which shows how to do all of these things.

Knitting socks is a tedious thing! I think I'm getting the hang of it though. The yarn and needles are tiny...It's really interesting working with 4 double pointed needles too! You have to be careful not to poke yourself in the eye (especially working with the tiny sock yarn!). This is the first time I had tried anything with such thin yarn, and tiny little needles. I'm using Panda Cotton from Crystal Palace Yarns, and it's a blend of Bamboo, Cotton, and a little bit of elastic nylon for stretch. It feels nice in my hand, it's quite soft, but I think it will be pretty strong and will last a while since it's got mostly Bamboo. I mostly wanted to learn how to do this because now I'll be able to do other things on double pointed needles. I really want to learn how to make some of those great string bags, like you would take to to the grocery store or farmer's market. I'm tired of using the plastic bags all of the time, and am making a concious effort (with the help of my sweet husband, Mike) to rid my house of them. Of course... I do use them in my bathroom and bedroom trash cans, so we'll have to come up with something else for that... Ideas?

I've really got to start working on the 4 Season's Quilt Swap! I've only got the top done and it's basted now with the backing, but I can't find my darning foot, and I need to get that quilting and binding done - it's supposed to be sent by the end of this month! Man! I need to find that foot and get to work! Maybe I should make a list so I can keep on track with all of the projects I'm trying to complete.

Whew... I think this cold/yucky weather also hinders my creativity. I don't feel like doing anything except cuddling up on the couch, or napping! I am not a cold weather girl. I better go see what the little man is up to, he's playing in his sister's room... probably playing with the toy vaccum again - it's his favorite toy ever.
