Dress one done... what's next?

Yay! I finished the first Summer dress for Taylor Anne!!! I also made a matching little scrunchie for her hair! She's really excited about it, and wants to wear it constantly... but it is too big. I was afraid it might be, as I was putting it together it just looked big... It's gonna fit her NEXT summer better than THIS summer unfortunately. That is, unless she gains 10 lbs or something... I followed the directions for the size 6 (she'll be 6 in May), and only made one mistake with the zipper, so you can see the stitching for the zipper on the back of the dress - but I planned ahead when I realized my mistake and used matching thread so it wouldn't be too bad. I also used matching thread for the bottom hem, so it's not very noticeable either. I love it - it's really cute. The next one I make - well... I'll have to figure out how to make it a little narrower. I'll try with the blue fish fabric she picked out, and hopefully it will be better. I just don't know how to fix the pattern... any advice out there? Here's the skinny little thing striking a pose for you:

My plan now is to finish the quilt-along quilt... and I'm going to follow amandajean's plan. I love how her's looks, and I don't think I would come up with something myself... So I'm keeping busy today cutting little 2 1/2" squares... I have to make over 400 of them!!!!! I'm not sure I'll have enough of the coordinating fabrics! I may have to go searching for more of the same FQs! Oh the humanity! Ha ha...

After I finish that quilt, I am going to tackle that blue dress (or maybe while I'm working on that quilt... THEN - I saw this the other day on sew-mama-sew!!! I have to make one of these! Maybe in purple...or green... First I'll have to get the Kaffe Fassett book that the pattern is in... maybe it's at the library... then I'll have to get my fabrics together - oooh fun fun fun!

The dress is adorable -- but I know the issues with dealing with a little miss skinny minnie. (mine is almost 3 now and only weighs 27 1/2 pounds -- and is 3 feet tall. Can we say fit issues?) What about making the dress in the size 5 but with the size 6 length? It should take care of the narrowness issues. Also, take a look at the pattern -- they may show places where you can adjust length. As for the Kaffe book -- try the library. I know I've seen it at mine :0).

Em- The dress is really cute! I know Taylor Anne loves to wear it! Maybe you could take in the sides under the arms with long stitches and it would not look so big...then you culd take the stitches out easier if you don't like it.. just a thought... I continue to be impressed!!

Thanks for the link! The quilt is lots of fun to make, but very, very fiddly if you make it to size. I saw someone who had scaled the whole thing up so that when it was finished it made a king-sized quilt -- that looked quite impressive too.

Oh, and check this out -- I'm very much in awe of it:

The dress is very sweet, and your daughter looks quite proud. If I hadn't dropped out of the quilt a long months ago, I would be dropping out now...I am easily overwhelmed, and that 400 just seems impossible to me! Good luck.

For the one you haven't made yet, Just take a bit off either the center fold of the pattern piece or the sides, or as suggested get a size 5 pattern but make it longer. The dress is adorable.
