Apple time!

Fall is apple time...
and we couldn't miss out this year!

Because there is a really nice, local orchard between our house and the NC Zoo, we decided to visit on our way home from our last Zoo visit. It was a beautiful day for apple picking!

Most of the apples were really too high to reach, so Mike lifted Taylor Anne up to reach the ones we wanted. It was hard work, but it was really worth it! We ended up getting 32 1/2 lbs of apples - a mix of Granny Smith and Honey-crisp.

Anderson and Taylor Anne were so proud of the baskets full of apples!

When we went into the barn to weigh and pay for our apples, I ran into a friend from middle and high school whom I haven't seen in many years! It was quite a great surprise, Elizabeth and I had a great time catching up - of course, I had to take a picture with her!

While we were inside 'checking out', the kids were out back playing on the tire swings... my kids don't seem to be into the 'traditional' tire swing methods, they like to be creative, I guess.

We had a wonderful time, and the next day we made some delicious chunky applesauce!
(My kids don't like the store-bought stuff - snobs... I know... )

I wonder if this batch will last until next apple season...

Where was the orchard? I have been wanting to take the kids but didn't want to drive too far.

Honey Crisp are my very favorite apple. I really didn't even much like apples until I discovered them and I came over from the dark side and started eating apples.
