A Special Day!

Today, I was a volunteer.
I'm going to try to give you a taste:

I showed up at a local Middle School, and the gym was empty - that didn't last long! Bleachers were pulled out, tables set up with timers and scoreboards, and the athletes and coaches arrived.

Soon there were basketball players all over the place, scrumming around for the ball, making shots and passes, and giving high-fives amid lots of smiles!

There were fans galore! Lots of cheering, clapping and hugging!

The athletes were from several generations, and they played basketball side-by-side.

They waited patiently for their turn in the game.

The coaches were inspiring, encouraging, and patient.

Teams won and lost, more high-fives and low-fives were given.

Happy glances were shared, and teammates celebrated.

It was a special day.
I volunteered with Special Olympics of North Carolina.
I am so glad I was able to be a part of it.
I made new friends...I hope I get to see them soon.
I can't wait to do it again!
