What do you do???

When this happens? (other than cry...?) How do you prevent it?

Need a closer look?

See it? It's because this block didn't turn out EXACTLY the same size as the other blocks... so it puckered (and not a good kind of pucker, either!)
I'm trying to decide whether to rip it all out and redo the block... and the row... and the top... I am also afraid it will happen again somewhere in the other 3 rows I have yet to sew together with these two...
What to do, what to do...

Oh Em,
I hate it when that happens! I usually leave my puckers in and quilt over them and hope no one notices! hahaha. I don't think you will notice your pucker because it's the same fabrics against each other. But if it is going to drive you crazy, rip it out now while you can! Before you sew those other blocks together, measure them carefully and see if you need to trim any of them. Good luck!

I think we've all had this happen. Our 1/4 inch is not true, we've miscut, fabrics stretch, etc. What to do with it depends on just how OCD you are! ;) Since that square is next to the same color, could you just trim it up a bit to take out the excess? Your points look so great that I don't think anyone would notice, especially after quilting. I would hate to rip out such a good star; the fabric will stretch, distort and then you might have a worse problem. Good luck to you and try not to stress about it! You know the expression... if you can't see a mistake in a quilt from a galloping horse it really doesn't matter!

Well I mostly have learned to prevent this by measuring the blocks after I make them to make sure they are the correct size.
Make sure you have your machine set so you get a true 1/4 seam allowance and yes if it going to ruin the quilt for you take it out......otherwise...chalk it up to a leaning experience and quilt heavily over it, learn from it and move on.
So many quilts to be made so little time :0)

Happy sewing, and have a blessed 2011

Hey, I've just found your blog and love your quilts! They're beautiful. What did you end up doing about the puckering? I had this on my last quilt and wondered what to do with it! Still looks amazing x
