Taylor Anne and Mike are working on a Pinewood Derby car, for the upcoming Girl Scout Powder-Puff Pinewood Derby. It's a Girl/Special Guy event for the Girl Scouts in our area, and it sounds like a lot of fun. The theme was voted on, and turned out to be "Animals" - so, Taylor Anne decided to make her car look like a Tiger! Check out the progression:
It all starts with a block of pine wood, 4 wheels and their axles...

After telling Mike what she wanted, here's what he came up with for the Tiger Shape - he cut this shape out of the pine box.

Then it was time for sanding - Taylor Anne did this part herself.

There was a lot of sanding involved. Taylor Anne did a great job,
and was paying attention to every detail!

She's really getting into that sanding!

Then it was time to paint the base color - Orange, of course! It looks great doesn't it?

There were 2 coats of paint, a light sanding with fine grit sandpaper,
then a finish coat of the orange...

After all of that was dry - the Tiger needed stripes!
Taylor Anne also put on some whiskers and claws.

Check it out! Sweet painting job, huh?

The finished product - well, there will be some weights added - to really make it fast!
Not too shabby for a first Pinewood Derby - if I say so myself... (I'm a little biased, I know!) I'll let you know how it turns out after the race on Saturday.
